Questions
What exactly is a subdomain on Subdy?
You pick a free label — say myapp — and get myapp.subdy.io plus everything under it (api.myapp.subdy.io, *.myapp.subdy.io). You control its DNS records; we run the nameservers.
Why is it free? What's the catch?
2 names cost us almost nothing to serve, and some free users later need ten. That's the whole model — no ads, no selling data, no 30-day confirmation emails. Paid plans fund the free ones.
What are the limits on each plan?
Free: 2 subdomains, 10 records each. Pro: 10 subdomains, 25 records. Platform: 100 subdomains and a white-label domain. Every plan gets wildcard TLS, dyndns, API and MCP — we don't gate features.
How does wildcard TLS work?
Flip one toggle. We answer the DNS-01 challenge on our own nameservers and order a certificate for *.yourname.subdy.io from Let's Encrypt. It renews automatically; you can watch the status live.
Does dyndns work with my router?
If it speaks the dyndns2 protocol (most do — the same one ddclient uses), yes. Point it at api.subdy.io/nic/update with your token. No router? A one-line cron job does the same.
What's MCP and why should I care?
MCP lets AI assistants use tools. Add our connector to Claude and “point staging at 203.0.113.7” becomes a thing you type in chat, not a dashboard chore. Tokens are scoped and revocable.
Can I bring my own domain?
On the Platform plan, yes — white-label your domain and hand out names under it. On Free and Pro you work under subdy.io.
How do I cancel?
Two clicks in Billing, no email required. Your names keep working until the paid period ends, then the account drops to Free limits — we never delete records without warning you first.
What about abuse — phishing on a shared domain?
Every new name passes automated moderation (Safe Browsing + an AI classifier), and abuse@subdy.io is read by humans. A clean shared domain is what keeps your name trusted, so we take this seriously.
